TCP or UDP: which protocol to pick for a tunnel
Pick the protocol your program works over: its documentation says which, and for popular games it's in the table below. A tunnel with another protocol gets created, but you can't connect through it.
Protocols of popular games and services
| What you open | Protocol and default port |
|---|---|
| Minecraft: Java Edition | TCP 25565 |
| Minecraft: Bedrock Edition | UDP 19132 |
| Counter-Strike 1.6, Condition Zero, Day of Defeat, Sven Co-op | UDP 27015 |
| Terraria | TCP 7777 |
| Simple Voice Chat (voice chat) | UDP 24454 |
A website or API at an https:// link | HTTPS, showing a site |
| SSH, database | TCP |
If the program needs both
Since app version 1.3.0
Pick the TCP+UDP protocol: one tunnel opens the port for both at once.
An app without this type can't open two tunnels to one port, since it allows one tunnel per port: update ProximaClient.
If you picked the wrong one
An existing tunnel's protocol can't be changed: delete the tunnel (right-click it in the list and choose "Delete") and create a new one to the same destination address with the right protocol, then send your friends the new address. Other reasons people can't connect to a tunnel are on the "Friends can't connect" page.
