Why a tunnel's address changes and how to keep it
While a tunnel runs, its address doesn't change. When the tunnel is off, the app is closed or the computer is off, the address stays yours for a while: turn the tunnel on before that time runs out, and it comes back on the same address.
How long the address is kept
| Plan | Basic | Pro | Ultra |
|---|---|---|---|
| HTTPS link is kept | 1 hour after closing | the whole paid period and 7 days more | the whole paid period and 30 days more |
| TCP and UDP address is kept | 1 hour after closing | 7 days after closing | 30 days after closing |
| Port number of your choice | no | up to 3 | up to 10 |
Where to see how much time is left
A tunnel that is off but whose address is yours is marked "Reserved" with the time left in the "Tunnels" list. Its card says "Port reserved · … left".
Since app version 1.3.0
An HTTPS link's card says "The link is held until …" with a date.
If the card says "Node down · address held, timer paused", the node of that address is down: the reservation clock is stopped, and you can turn the tunnel on once the node is back.
How to get the old address back
- In ProximaClient, open "Tunnels" and pick the tunnel marked "Reserved".
- Click "Enable".
Check it: once the tunnel connects, its card shows the same address as before. "Create tunnel" instead of "Enable" gives a new address.
When the address changes
- The reservation ran out. The card shows "Reservation expired — port released"; "Create tunnel" opens a tunnel with the same destination, but on a new address.
- The tunnel was deleted with "Delete" or "Release reservation": the address is released at once and can't be brought back.
- The tunnel moved to another server with "Switch to another server".
- A paid plan ended and the free plan turned on: from then on, TCP and UDP addresses are kept as long as on the free plan. How to keep them before that is on the plans page.
If you fix the tunnel's name or destination address, its address stays the same; the protocol, public port and location of a tunnel that exists can't be changed.
Since app version 1.3.0
If you change an HTTPS link's name, the old link stops working.
To keep the address from changing
- Don't quit the app: while ProximaClient runs, in the tray too, tunnels keep working.
- To keep at least the TCP or UDP port number the same, pick it yourself if your plan allows it (the "Port number of your choice" row above): when creating the tunnel, enter it in "Public port", and the app shows the nodes where it's free.
A tunnel that is off keeps taking up one of your plan's addresses while its reservation lasts. If you've run out of addresses, open the "Address limit reached" page.
