How to install plugins on a Minecraft server
Plugins are installed on the server's "Plugins" tab in ProximaClient: from the built-in Modrinth catalog or by dragging in a .jar file. They work on the Paper, Purpur and Folia cores (on Folia, only plugins made for it) and on the Velocity proxy with its own plugins. Forge, NeoForge and Fabric have no plugins, they use mods, and Vanilla has neither plugins nor mods.
Steps
- Open the server in ProximaClient and go to the "Plugins" tab.
- Click "Catalog" and find the plugin in the Modrinth catalog, or drag the plugin's
.jarfile into the app window. The plugin version has to suit the server version. - Restart the server: the plugin loads and creates its settings in the
plugins/<PluginName>folder.
Check it: after the restart, the server console shows no plugin load error. If there is one, most often the plugin needs another server version or another plugin it depends on: the console says so.
On the same tab, plugins are turned on, off and removed. To change a plugin's settings, click the icon with the tooltip "Config editor" on its card. If there's no such icon, the plugin doesn't support the editor: edit the files in the plugins/<PluginName> folder on the "Files" tab. Players usually don't need to install anything; the exception is plugins that need a mod on the player's side, such as voice chat.
Where to get plugins
Download plugins from Modrinth, Hangar or SpigotMC. "Free" copies of paid plugins from other sites often carry malicious code that gets access to the server.
