How to turn on the whitelist and ban a player in Minecraft
To let only your friends onto a Minecraft server, add their names to the whitelist on the server's "Players" tab in ProximaClient and turn the whitelist on in the server settings; the same tab grants operator rights and kicks and bans players.
Let only your friends in
- Open the server's "Players" tab and its "Whitelist" list.
- Type a name in "Player name for the whitelist" and click "Add". A player who has already been on the server is added with "To whitelist" in the "History" list.
- On the "Settings" tab, turn on "Whitelist" and click "Save settings". To have the server disconnect anyone not on the list, turn on "Enforce whitelist" too.
- Restart the server.
Check it: a player who isn't on the list can't join the server.
The whitelist checks the player's name, so keep "Online mode (license)" on: without it, anyone can join under someone else's name (online mode).
Operators
In the "Operators" list, type a name in "Name to grant operator rights" and click "Grant"; "Revoke" takes the rights away. For players online, the "OP" and "DEOP" buttons do the same.
Kick and ban
- For a player online: "Kick" disconnects them, and they can rejoin right away; "Ban" keeps them off the server until they are unbanned. "Kick all" disconnects every player.
- In the "Bans" list, type a name in "Player name to ban" and click "Ban"; "Unban" lifts the ban.
Players coming through the tunnel reach the server from 127.0.0.1, so "IP bans" can't tell them apart: if you ban 127.0.0.1, nobody who connects through the tunnel can join. The players' real addresses show in the tunnel's list of connections (who connects), and access is closed for an address on the tunnel itself: IP access.
If the player list is empty
If the tab says "Query disabled", click "Enable Query" and restart the server: without Query the app can't see who is on the server.
