"FAILED TO BIND TO PORT"

The port the Minecraft server starts on (25565 by default) is already taken, most often by a second copy of the server or by a server that didn't shut down completely. Close the extra server or start the server on another port.

In the server console it looks like this:

[Server thread/WARN]: **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!
The exception was: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: bind
Perhaps a server is already running on that port?

If the server runs from ProximaClient, the app shows a "Port in use" window itself and offers a button to change the port: what to do with it.

What to do

  1. Close the second or hung server: Minecraft server processes are called java.exe and show up on the "Details" tab of the Windows Task Manager.
  2. If you don't know what holds the port, run netstat -ano | findstr :25565 in the Command Prompt. The last number on the line is the process ID (PID): find it on the "Details" tab of the Task Manager and end it.
  3. If you can't find what holds the port, restart the computer: that frees the port.
  4. If another program needs the port, change the server port on the server-port line of server.properties, for example server-port=25566, and restart the server. A tunnel created together with the server moves to the new port by itself on the next start; for a tunnel created by hand on the "Tunnels" page, change the port in its "Destination address" field.

If that didn't help

Write to support through "Tech support" in the app menu with the error text from the console and when it appeared.
