"the proximamp agent on this computer runs as another user"

The full error text is "the proximamp agent on this computer runs as another user, so this command will not talk to it". The command found another user's proximamp agent in its folder and would not talk to it: run every proximamp command as one user. The exit code is 6.

This happens when a command run as another user works with your proximamp folders: for example sudo -E proximamp …, or su without - while XDG_CONFIG_HOME or XDG_STATE_HOME is set.

What to do

  1. Run the command as the same user as the proximamp commands already running, without sudo.

  2. If your own commands get the error, stop the proximamp command running as the other user and try again. On Linux, find its number (PID) on the line with that user's name and stop it:

    ps -o user,pid,args -C proximamp
    sudo kill <PID>

Leave the proximamp-cli user's line alone: that is the service, and it never causes this error. If a command then says "could not start or reach the proximamp agent…", stop your own proximamp commands too.

  3. If a command needs administrator rights (proximamp service), run it with sudo but without -E: it then has folders of its own.

  4. If the tunnels must work without you, install the service: it has a user and folders of its own.

If that didn't help
