How to add an email, change the password and sign out
Click the block with your account in the app menu, the one showing your plan: "Profile" opens. It holds the account's email, the ways to sign in, the plan's paid period and signing out.
Email
Neither the login nor an email already set can be changed, but an account without an email can add one. The email is needed to pay for a plan (the receipt goes there) and to reset the password.
- App
- Command line
Since app version 1.3.0
The "Account" card shows the login and the email.
- Click "Add email": the "Add email" window opens.
- Enter the address and your "Current password". For an account without a password, the app asks you to confirm the sign-in through VK ID or Yandex ID in your browser instead.
- Click "Get code": a 6-digit code arrives at the email.
- Enter the "Code" and click "Confirm".
Check it: the app says "Email confirmed", and the card shows "Confirmed" next to the email. If the window closed too early, the email shows "Awaiting code": click "Enter code".
proximamp email add <email> # asks for the current password, then the 6-digit code from the email
For an account without a password, the command opens a sign-in through VK ID or Yandex ID in your browser instead of asking for the password, so run it on a computer with a browser. If the command ended before you entered the code, enter it on its own:
proximamp email confirm <code>
The same proximamp email add with the same email sends a new code.
Check it:
proximamp email
The command says "Email: …, confirmed."
Ways to sign in
- App
- Command line
Since app version 1.3.0
Under "Ways to sign in", "Link" adds VK ID or Yandex ID, "Unlink" removes it, "Change password" changes the password, and "Set password" sets one if the account was created through VK ID or Yandex ID. Before every change the app asks you to confirm it's you: with your password or by signing in through the service in your browser. The last way to sign in can't be unlinked: set a password first. After a password change, you need to sign in again on your other devices.
proximamp password change # change the password
proximamp password set # set the first password of an account created through VK ID or Yandex ID
Changing the password asks for the current one and the new one twice and prints "The password is saved. Every other sign-in of the account has ended." Set the first password on a computer with a browser: after the password the command opens a sign-in through VK ID or Yandex ID.
A VK ID or Yandex ID with your account's email is linked by signing in through it: signing in with VK ID or Yandex ID. The sign-in asks for the account's password, so an account without one needs its first password set first. Unlinking works only in the app.
Signing out
- App
- Command line
In "Profile", click "Sign out". To end the sign-in on every other computer, change the password.
A device that signed in with a device key signs in with it again after a password change: revoke the key.
Check it: the app shows the "Sign in to ProximaMP" screen.
proximamp logout # sign out on this computer
proximamp devices # where the account is signed in
proximamp devices rename <id> <name> # give a device a name you recognize
proximamp devices sign-out <id> # end a device's sign-in and close its tunnels
proximamp devices shows each device's id and how it signed in, and this computer is marked "(this computer)". A device that signed in with a key can sign in with it again after its sign-in ends: how to revoke a key.
Check it after signing out:
proximamp whoami
The command says you are not signed in.
